First Stop Health

When it comes to your health, one of the best things you can do is build an ongoing relationship with a primary care doctor who empowers you to make informed decisions.

Virtual primary care is a convenient way to build this relationship via phone or video. Patients love that they can save time and money while taking control of their health. Doctors love virtual primary care, too, because it allows them to see their patients more often and when care is most needed.

Let's get to know one of our doctors. Maria Colon-Gonzalez, MD, is a First Stop Health Virtual Primary Care doctor who is focuses on making sure her patients feel heard. Read on to learn about Dr. Colon-Gonzalez and her approach to virtual care.

Why did you choose to become a doctor?

I am passionate about health. In college, I began studying health education and public health, but I thought I could make a greater impact on people's health through one-on-one care.

Where did you attend medical school?
I attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. I then completed by residency in Family Medicine at Penn State and a Faculty Development fellowship at Brown University.

How long have you been practicing medicine?

I have been practicing medicine since 2013.

What is your medical specialty?

I am board-certified in Family Medicine.

Why do you love virtual primary care?

There are 4 main reasons:

  1. It is easy and convenient for both patient and doctor.
  2. Patients have better access to healthcare.
  3. The ability to develop a lasting relationship with a diverse population of patients.
  4. My ability to provide quality care to my patients.

What does care that people love® mean to you?

For me it is about making sure people feel listened to and validated. I want to help my patients reach their healthcare goals while using evidence-based medicine principles. I focus on providing healthcare that my patients feel they can share with their family and friends.

When you're not caring for patients, how do you spend your time?

I enjoy fitness, being outdoors, reading and cooking. I am also a certified yoga instructor.
