First Stop Health

When it comes to your health, one of the best things you can do is build an ongoing relationship with a primary care doctor who empowers you to make informed decisions.

Virtual primary care is a convenient way to build this relationship via phone or video. Patients love that they can save time and money while taking control of their health. Doctors love virtual primary care, too, because it allows them to see their patients more often and when care is most needed.

Let's get to know one of our doctors. Stotz Thoda, DO, is a First Stop Health Virtual Primary Care doctor who leads with communication and trust . Read on to learn about Dr. Thoda and his approach to virtual care.

Why did you choose to become a doctor?
My passion and calling to become a physician came from a personal and spiritual conviction to care for those in need. The best part of being a doctor is that I am humbled every day by the privilege of holding a vital role in people's lives.

Where did you attend medical school?
I earned my medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences' College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest. I completed my residency with Providence, based in Portland.

What is your medical specialty?
I am a board-certified family medicine physician. Family medicine provides me with the ability to care for an extensive patient population, from children to the elderly. It's a perfect combination that allows me to develop relationships with my patients plus explore the new frontiers of medicine in a patient-centered medical home.

Why do you love virtual primary care?

Virtual Primary Care has revolutionized the way we deliver medical care. From a specialist providing ICU management to rural or critical access hospitals, all the way to primary care. Virtual care has increased access to care to patients all across the spectrum. Increased access means more quality care and less neglect of medical issues that would not be dealt with proactively. Instead, these patients would be left to reactionary medicine when problems become complex or critical.

What does care that people love® mean to you?
I believe that my most important role as a doctor, is that of a listener and communicator. My philosophy on health care is to provide patients with knowledge and an understanding of their own biology and physiology. I will give you recommendations so you can make the most educated decision. Preventive measures are always preferable to reactionary medicine, and this is a vital perspective I hope to share with my patients.

When you're not caring for patients, how do you spend your time?
Before studying medicine, I pursued a career in the music industry and worked for five years for a recording studio and record label in Tennessee. As a Pacific Northwest transplant, I love to hike and take in Timbers games. I also speak some Spanish, thanks to my Venezuelan grandmother.
